  In this quick experiment, we connected reactors containing different mixes of compost, fertilizer, and plants to continuously monitor CO<sub>2&nbsp;</sub>production. The data clearly showed day–night cycles: lower CO<sub>2</sub>&nbsp;during daytime photosynthesis and higher CO<sub>2</sub>&nbsp;at night as respiration took over. <strong>This simple setup highlights how continuous respirometry reveals interactions between plants, microbes, and environmental conditions.</strong>
